2018 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback

America love affair with crossovers, trucks and hatchbacks is
unrivalled. This is the reason the Chevrolet Cruze hatchback
has returned impressive figures since 2008. Chevrolet is even
anticipating better returns for the Chevrolet in the coming
months. The Cruze has in fact been Chevrolet’s best-selling
model globally while n the USA, the model sells around 350,000
units every year, which is very impressive. To strengthen sales
for the Cruze lineup, the automaker is introducing a new diesel
mill with an option for either a manual gearbox or a 9-speed
automatic transmission system. The diesel mill will arrive in
the Cruze in 2017 and will be offered as a 2018 model car. Read

2018 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback Exterior

The 2018 Chevrolet Cruze hatchback exterior derives inspiration
from that of the Cruze sedan. However, the hatch takes the
sedan’s design to a new level by adding a dose of functionality
and aggressiveness.

At the front, the hatch features the same grille as the sedan.
The front fascia features a larger grille that is flanked by
aggressive-looking headlights. From the fascia, a smooth hood
flows rearwards onto the smoothly and sharply creased front
fenders which in turn send a sharp body backwards.

The line that starts at the fenders continues through the door
handles all the way into the taillights. The line in fact
terminates below the slanted rear glass window. The sides also
feature a deep scallop in the lower section of the doors. The
hatch rides on either 17-inch or 18-inch wheels. At the rear,
the Cruze hatchback features a prominent spoiler just over the
rear hatch.

The hatch is offered in only the LT and Premier trims.

To add an extra dose of sportiness, there will be an option for
the RS package that adds unique rocker panels, fog lights as
well as exclusive front and rear fascia.

2018 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback Interior

The hatch cabin design also derives its inspiration from the
Cruze sedan. Truth be told, it is a good thing because the 2016
Cruze sedan interior is quite elegant. Buyers will love the
Cruze’s new 7.0-inch touch-screen that integrates the
automaker’s MyLink system. The system is offered as a standard
feature across the two trims. It offers an easy-to-use graphic
interface that features large icons as well as a swiping
capability.  The system also offers Bluetooth
connectivity, Smartphone integration, Android Auto, Apple
CarPlay as well as wireless charging.

That is not all, the hatch also offers a TFT screen that
displays a digital speedometer and displays other information
about the vehicle.

The vehicle also features numerous soft-touch materials while
its seats are upholstered in a quality cloth with an option for
leather upholstery. The rear passengers have plenty of legroom
for a comfortable ride. This is courtesy of wheelbase that is 1
inch longer than that of the outgoing model. However, many
customers won’t like the tighter headroom because the roof of
the new hatch is an inch lower.

As for the cargo space, the hatch offers 18.5 cubic feet of
space that expands to 42 cubic feet upon folding the rear bench
that has a 60/40 split-folding functionality.

Engine Specs and performance

The 2018 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback will be offered with two
drive-trains. The models will feature the current turbocharged
1.4 L, 4-cylinder petrol mill that produces 153 horses and 177
lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic
transmission. The engine powers that hatchback to accelerate
from 0-60 mph in 7.7 seconds.  The mill is quite frugal
with EPA ratings of 29 mpg in city and 38 mpg on highway

The exciting news is that Chevrolet will introduce the 1.6 L
turbodiesel mill that powers the Europe’s Vauxhall Astra.
On the Vauxhall, the engine produces 134 hp and 236 lb-ft of
torque. In addition, the engine will be mated to either a
6-speed manual gearbox or a 9-speed automatic transmission
system. Acceleration and EPA ratings for the diesel mill will
be released close to the model’s debut but it is expected to
return almost 50 mpg.

Price and release date

Chevrolet has not announced official prices or the release date
of the 2018 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback. However, rumor has it
that the hatchback will be released in the fall of 2017. The
hatchback release will be preceded by that of the sedan.
As for the price, the hatchback will be competitively priced,
so expect a starting price of around $22,000 for the LT trim
and around $24,000 for the range-topping Premier trim.
The RS package will attract more bucks.

Top rivals of the Cruze Hatchback will be the likes of Subaru
Impreza, VW
Golf, Mazda 3,
Civic, Ford Focus hatchback and Hyundai
Elantra GT.
